“It can never happen to me!” or “It won’t happen to me!” is what many homeowners that are struck with a natural disaster, such as a flood or weather damage, or a fire often think…until it does actually happen to them. Sad, indeed, are those who did not have homeowners’ insurance as many in the St. Louis area learned in the flash floods of July, 2022 or the floods from prior years. If it’s not floods that St. Louis area residents, whether they be in the City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, or Franklin County, have their properties hit with, it may be the damage from the storms we so commonly have in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. These storms are legendary, as so many of us know, and are extremely destructive, leaving trees crashing into houses, hail damage, damage from strong winds, or damage from the power being knocked out.

The cost of property restoration services in the Saint Louis region does not have a real average, despite claims to the contrary online, as it’s all dependent on the level of damage that occurs from the weather, water, or fire what the cost to restore a damaged area is. In most instances, property owners can expect a bill in the thousands at a minimum for a home and in the multiple thousands to low tens of thousands at a minimum. More complicated and destructive restoration services could cost tens of thousands to as high as a hundred thousands dollars.

Much of the damage that occurs as the result of weather disasters must be repaired for a house to be safely inhabited, it is not something that can be safely put off until the money is there. This is where homeowner’s insurance comes in but its necessary that your homeowners policy includes weather, water, flood, and fire insurance in it to be properly covered.

Many Saint Louis area property owners would find it difficult to come out of pocket for the cost of restoration services if the damage is extensive and putting costs this high on a credit card can become prohibitively expensive. This is why homeowners are strongly advised to have comprehensive homeowners insurance that will cover the most common natural disaster situations. Property restoration services are not cheap and are rarely something that a homeowner can put off so being armed with proper insurance is the best way to prepare oneself for natural disasters that may come.
